About ME

Hi, I’m Jenny, the maker behind Stony Point Pottery! I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember. What started with sewing and cross-stitching as a kid eventually led to clay, and now I make pottery that’s meant to be used, loved, and make your day a little more fun.

My mom taught me to sew and cross-stitch when I was around 10, and I was hooked. Following patterns wasn’t really my thing, though. I liked figuring things out as I went, making mistakes, and occasionally wishing I’d read the instructions.

In my 20s, I started sewing clothes for my kids. Friends and family began asking me to make baby gifts, and I thought, “Maybe I could make a little money doing this!” That turned into selling at local boutiques and eventually opening a consignment shop in our hometown, all while raising my two kids.

About six years later, with both kids in school full-time, I was ready to try something new. Somewhere in my 30s, I started collecting handmade mugs, there’s just something about drinking coffee from a handmade mug that makes the morning a little better. Pretty soon, collecting mugs wasn’t enough, I wanted to make my own and give someone else a reason to smile over their morning coffee.

I spent a lot of time convincing myself pottery would be too hard before I’d even touched a bag of clay. My husband finally said, “Just get started,” so I headed to the local ceramics shop. They recommended a class. I apparently heard “buy some clay and figure it out.”  With a beginner’s tool kit, YouTube, and plenty of trial and error, I started making bowls and mugs from rolled out slabs of clay.

I finally found a wheel on Craigslist and drove 45 minutes to pick it up. The sweet couple selling it even gave me my first lesson right there. That was it, I was hooked!

Thanks for being here and supporting this little business of mine. It makes me so happy knowing something I made gets to be part of your everyday life. ❤️
